If the SLS AMG Roadster were just a few kilometres per hour faster, its speed would correspond to the highest wind speed on the hurricane scale used in the USA. The new roadster version of the already today legendary SLS AMG super sports car combines outstanding driving dynamics with breathtaking, puristic design with the unique experience of open-top driving.

With its purist style, lightweight design and superior dynamic qualities, the SLS AMG Roadster with its fabric top delivers a driving experience that is just as thrilling as that of its original form – the SLS AMG Coupé – with its distinctive gullwing doors.

A bonnet measuring nearly two metres and a rear-positioned flat passenger cell lend this super sports car its incomparable charisma.

The Exterior

The SLS AMG Roadster clearly has the genes of the SLS AMG Coupé – but it also has a character very much its own.
The design is distinctly dynamic, the lines are particularly distinctive: from the dominant front, including the extremely extended bonnet and the cockpit positioned far back in the vehicle, to the flat sloping rear section.

In its closed state it blends perfectly into the vehicle’s lines – a delight for all those who love classic roadster design.

The colour red represents energy, joy and passion. Now that the SLS AMG is on the scene, it represents another eight colours. These include exclusive matt paints manufactured using technology that is as innovative as it is sophisticated: designo magno allanite grey and AMG Monza grey magno. And a completely newly developed colour shade that is reminiscent of liquid silver: AMG alumbeam silver.

The Interior

Embodying lightweight design, dynamic performance and pure emotion, Mercedes-Benz and AMG have developed a purist's sports car interior for the SLS AMG. Opening the gullwing doors and folding top offers a clear view of the impressive SLS AMG interior. The interior combines authentic motorsport functionality, with stylistic echoes of the cockpit of an aircraft.

Revealing a meticulous attention to detail, a range of fine materials, including nappa leather and real metal trim (real carbon-fibre trim available as an option), emphasise the exceptional design and hand-finished character of the SLS AMG interior. For the interior you can choose between eleven carefully coordinated equipment lines. Depending entirely on the taste of the pilot - otherwise known as the driver.

Situated prominently in the solid metal centre console, the AMG DRIVE UNIT with AMG E-SELECT selector lever mirrors the style of a jet control panel. The wing-shaped instrument panel featuring four distinctive air vents and the AMG instrument cluster with white-backlit round dials is commanding and distinctively puristic.

High-quality sports seats with magnesium backrests are finished in stylish designo leather, available in eleven equipment lines to match the exterior colours. designo natural leather/exclusive light brown textured leather is available as an option.

Review: The Extremely Sporty Audi e-tron Spyder

The e-tron Spyder accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h like a rocket – with dynamics that are rarely achieved by combustion engines. Audi’s thrilling vision of the future.

Under the bonnet of the e-tron Spyder, designed as a plug-in hybrid, is a drive concept that takes optimum advantage of the strengths of both engines. Two electric motors, with 87 bhp combined, power the front suspension and a 3.0 TDI engine with 300 bhp and twin turbochargers moves the rear wheels, controlled by a 7-speed S tronic. The driver themselves decide whether they want to use the energy from both sources of power together or separately.

The e-tron Spyder has the support provided by its electric motors to thank for its fantastic acceleration figures. It races from 0 to 100 in an unbelievable 4.4 seconds. With activated diesel engine, the open-topped two-seater achieves an electrically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The e-tron Spyder was presented for the first time as a study at the Paris Motor Show in 2010.

New Porsche Boxster

The Boxster is equipped with a 2.7-liter flat-six engine with Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus. It generates 265 hp at 6700 rpm. The maximum torque of 206 lb-ft. is available over a broad engine speed range from 4500 rpm to 6500 rpm.

The new Boxster with six-speed manual gearbox accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and reaches a top track speed of 164 mph. With the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), it completes the 0 to 60 sprint in 5.4 seconds and achieves a top track speed of 162 mph. In conjunction with the optional Sport Chrono Package, the sprint time is reduced to just 5.2 seconds.

At Porsche, the mid-mounted boxer engine is more than a tradition, it is a legend. 

One of the most renowned examples of its use was in the 550 Spyder. In conjunction with an intelligent lightweight construction, this arrangement delivered outstanding agility and cornering dynamics and proved to be a key factor in the countless victories achieved on some of the world’s most famous racetracks. In the 1960s, the 718 RS 60 Spyder contributed to the triumphant success of the mid-engined race car with wins in hillclimbing and endurance events. 

The mid-mounted engine belongs at Porsche and it belongs in the Boxster. The advantages speak for themselves. The concentration of mass close to the center of the vehicle and the low center of gravity produce extraordinary agility and cornering dynamics. At the same time, weight is uniformly distributed between the front and rear axles and handling characteristics are particularly well balanced. The combined result enables the driver fully enjoy every corner and maintain excellent control over the vehicle. 

For us, there are many reasons to remain faithful to the mid-mounted engine concept, to keep transferring performance from the racetrack to the road and to continue to combine tradition with innovation. How do we do it? Through Intelligent Performance, our commitment to high power with comparatively low fuel consumption and emission figures. 

With this aim, we developed two compact and lightweight boxer engines that are characterized by their ability to deliver high levels of power and efficiency simultaneously  Both engines are  equipped with efficient technologies as standard, including VarioCam Plus, Direct Fuel Injection (DFI), Auto Start/Stop, electrical system recuperation and enhanced thermal management. 

What else could we have given the mid-mounted engine? An even more agile response. One press of the SPORT button on the center console makes engine performance even more dynamic for driving pleasure at the limits of performance. Let’s take a look in more detail.
